What Now?

President Obama is in charge. The Democrats are in control of the House and the Senate. And I don’t know what to do with myself. I have been angry for the last eight years. For eight years, I’ve been unable to finish reading anything related to Bush administration policies. I could not read without getting angry. For eight years I was unable to listen to Bush’s news conferences without cringing and getting angry. For eight years I was in total disbelief that Bush was in office and that millions of Americans had actually voted to put him there. That just made me even more depressed. For eight years I couldn’t watch the news without getting angry. I pretty much stopped watching cable news, or any news. The soothing voice of NPR kept me going and kept me informed. (more…)

I’m crying tears of joy. I didn’t think this could happen. I had my doubts. Not in Obama. But in the electorate. I’m glad I was wrong. I have and always will be a Hillary supporter, but I’m proud to have Barack Obama as my President.

A Letter to the Undecided Voter

The Election Day is only a few hours away, and I feel the need to send a message to the undecided voter. If you are an undecided voter, then do us all a favor and DON’T VOTE. You heard it right. If by now you don’t have enough mental capacity to decide between two drastically different candidates then DON’T VOTE. I’m guessing you’re undecided because you don’t like McCain, because deep down you know he’s a ticking time bomb, mentally unfit to be President, but at the same time you don’t want to vote for a candidate that comes in a different package — one who’s not white, anglo-saxon protestant. 

So go ahead, make fear of the unknown dictate your choices in life. But don’t let your ignorance, and inability to make a smart decision deprive me of a President that can actually do some good for this country. You had your chance. Twice. Your inability to make a smart decision has given us eight years of Bush, and eight years of failed domestic and foreign policies. So if you haven’t made up your mind, stay home. DON’T VOTE. Or if you need help making a decision, here it is… go against your ignorant instinct, and do what smart voters are going to do… VOTE for Obama.

Pretty Woman Remake Starring Sarah Palin

One of my all time favorite cinematic moments is the shopping scene from Pretty Woman, starring Julia Roberts. I know I’m not the only woman who loves this scene. The one where Vivienne, the smart, gorgeous prostitute played by Julia Roberts, is being catered to at a fancy clothing store in Rodeo Drive, courtesy of Edward Wilson, Richard Gere’s character.

And now, there’s a real life pretty woman in town. No, not another hooker with a heart of gold. It’s Sarah Palin, a beauty queen governor all the way from Alaska. And who’s her John? It’s John McCain and the GOP. They have taken the girl from Alaska and given her a big city makeover, with fancy labels and expensive shoes from Neiman Marcus and Barneys New York. The same places where millions of working class women shop for clothes. Where Joe-Six-Pack and Joe-The-Plumber go shopping for Christmas presents.

So go ahead Sarah, keep preaching to the not-so-bright masses that the GOP is out to help them. They don’t know better. They just need a gun-toting, skirt-wearing, tough-talking girl with a million-dollar smile, to help them feel better when they’re out of a job because the Republican policies shipped those jobs  abroad. They might not be able to put bread on the table, but I’m sure your bright smile will keep them warm and fuzzy inside.

Don’t try to downplay the tone of this important debate, by asking Senator Biden, “May I call you Joe?” I’m glad you crammed for this exam, I mean debate. It looks like you have an answer for everything. Too bad none of the answers are for the questions being asked. Enough! I’m tired of you simplifying important issues. I’m tired of the hockey-mom schtick. I’m tired of the word maverick. I don’t want another maverick as my president. That’s just another word for “I don’t know what the heck I’m doing.”  I’ve seen the damage done by a maverick. I don’t want a maverick for president, because this isn’t the wild, wild west. This used to be the greatest nation in the world. Used to be… until a certain maverick from Texas lied and cheated his way into the White House. (more…)

Qualified Shmalified… After 8 Years of Cheney, the Republicans are Ready for a Pretty Face

An unqualified, inexperienced, gun-toting, American-flag bikini-wearing pretty face. And don’t get me started on the Hillary comparisons. Really? You’re going to compare an inexperienced, hillbilly, to an accomplished, experienced, intelligent woman? What exactly are we comparing here? That both women have vagina? That’s about the only thing that these candidates have in common. And as far as Palin’s comment about shattering the glass ceiling… I’ve got news for you lady. A woman in the VP spot does NOT shatter the glass ceiling. If she did, then Geraldine Ferraro shattered that ceiling 20 years ago on the Democratic ticket. A woman on the VP spot is just not good enough. An inexperienced woman on the VP spot is even worst. That is NOT shattering the glass ceiling. Letter to Hillary

Dear Hillary,

Thank you. You have once again inspired me. You will always have my support, financially and emotionally. I always thought you were the better choice and tonight you proved it once again. I’m glad that the rest of the country FINALLY got to see the class act that you are. They finally got to see the real you. Not the version of you that was demonized by the media. Not a sound byte out of context. But the real you. Strong, intelligent, capable, experienced and presidential you. The rest of the nation finally got to see the woman that so many of us have believed in and continue to believe in.

I will cast my vote for Barack Obama in November, in honor of you. And because as a true democrat I would have never voted for McCain and all that he stands for. I still believe that you belong in the White House. I know that one day you will get to the White House. I can’t wait for that day.

Goodbye Hillary… See You in 2012

Now that Obama has picked his running mate, my five stage grieving process has reached its conclusion. Acceptance. My optimistic side held on to hope, despite the discouraging reality. In the end, I’m not disappointed that his running mate is Biden. I’m disappointed that it’s not Hillary Clinton running for President. The person more likely to beat McCain. Who knows, maybe I’ll be proven wrong. Maybe Obama will beat McCain. I just think that sometimes hope and reality don’t coexist. In my case, my hope for seeing Hillary Clinton in the White House could not co-exist with the reality of overt sexism and misogyny . As for Obama, the sugarcoated message of hope just doesn’t seem enough to overcome his lack of experience and the Bradley factor. Maybe I’ll be proven wrong. Maybe we will get a democrat in the White House.  I just think that’s a stronger reality in 2012.  Hillary… I’ll see you in the White House in 2012.

What Does Obama Need to Win the Election?

He needs balls. Perhaps he can borrow them from Hillary Clinton, just long enough to win a national election. For all the negative rap the Clintons got for their campaign tactics during the Democratic primaries, one thing is for certain, they know how to win elections. Between the two, the Clintons have won Presidential, Gubernatorial and Senatorial elections. They know how to play to win. And they understand that when it comes to the big game, you need to play fire with fire. You can’t use little league strategy in the major leagues. And that’s what Obama might learn the hard way. If he doesn’t start responding to McCain’s negative ads. Turns out, those ads have been pretty effective. (more…)
